We pulled the walls back together and and built up from there, first constructing a loft and then a 30 inch knee wall to support the new gable roof. The renovation included new siding, windows, doors, roof trim and decks on the exterior. The contractor/homeowner decided to gut the 19th century cape, create two additions (master bedroom and entry), and to renovate the original structure based on a 1695 cape in Williamsburg, VA. The carrying beams are  24'  White  Oak  timbers  milled at &lt;a href="http://www.cowls.com/html/cowls_building_supply.html"&gt;Cowl's Building Supply&lt;/a&gt;  in  North  Amherst,  MA.
